Priečne sedlo is one of the most frequently visited mountain passes in the High Tatras. It is located between Široká and Priečna veža, separating Malá Studená dolina (Small Cold Valley) from Veľká Studená dolina (Great Cold Valley). Until 2021, this route was accessible only via an exposed hiking trail secured with chains. Thanks to the Slovak Tourist Club, a via ferrata (protected climbing route) has since been installed, making the route safer than the original trail.

The hike begins in Starý Smokovec, or more precisely from Hrebienok. From there, you follow the Tatranská magistrála (red-marked trail) to Zamkovského chata, and then continue through Malá Studená dolina to Téryho chata. From the nearby trail junction Pod Sedielkom, the via ferrata begins and takes you over Priečne sedlo into Veľká Studená dolina. The route continues past Zbojnícka chata and descends back down to Hrebienok.

This is a difficult mountain hike (via ferrata rated A/B) designed for fit and experienced hikers. Due to the nature of the via ferrata, the use of safety equipment (helmet, harness, energy absorber set) is mandatory. If needed, our company can provide this gear free of charge.
