Veľký Kyseľ is one of the most beautiful gorges in Slovenský raj (Slovak Paradise National Park). Until 1976, it was freely accessible like many other canyons in the park, but a devastating fire led to its closure for forty years. It was finally reopened in August 2016, and to this day, you can still see fallen trees and damaged remnants of old climbing aids like ladders and chains. The highlight of the hike is the ascent alongside the Giant Waterfall (Obrovský vodopád) at the end of the ferrata.

The hike starts at a parking lot near the village of Letanovce. From there, you follow a marked trail to Letanovský mlyn, cross the historic Carthusian Bridge over the Hornád River, and continue along the blue trail through the Hornád Gorge to the junction Biely potok – ústie. From there, you ascend along Biely potok valley to the Kyseľ – ústie trail junction, where the HZS Kyseľ via ferrata begins. After completing the ferrata, the trail leads to Kláštorisko, and from there back to the parking lot.

This is a moderately challenging tour with a B/C difficulty rating, suited for fit hikers. Use of via ferrata gear (helmet, harness, and energy absorber) is mandatory. Our company provides this equipment free of charge if needed.
